CompassGo App

Project Context

This app design was developed as part of the university course Public Relations and Corporate Communication. As a group, we developed a PR strategy for the Nordwest Mediengruppe to strengthen its regional identity. One of our key ideas was a digital solution that highlights the beauty and cultural relevance of the region for newcomers, tourists, and students.

Process

The project began with defining the user group: people unfamiliar with the region. Based on that, I designed a mobile interface focused on clarity, simplicity, and accessibility. Visual navigation replaces text wherever possible. The layout combines categories like events, nature, and culture, supported by images and intuitive icons. Navigation to locations is integrated via external apps. The profile area gives users a personalized overview of their activities.
The color scheme is based on the brand colors of the Nordwest Mediengruppe and was adapted for mobile use. Icon style and layout were developed with a focus on usability. I also created a detailed route feature including live transportinformation, available
directly from the lock screen.

UX & Feautres

The app was designed to be accessible and intuitive. Core content is structured in visual tiles, using icons and images instead of text where possible. A key feature is the integrated route function, offering directions for walking, cycling, driving and public transport. The route preview is also available on the lock screen for better safety and convenience. Users can save favorite places, explore local events and access basic information in multiple languages. The overall interface supports orientation without overwhelming the user.
